Author Biography

Hillegonda C Rietveld, London South Bank University

Prof Hillegonda C Rietveld, PhD, established the study and production of sonic culture at London South Bank University, UK, in 2003, and coordinates the PG research programme of its School of Arts and Creative Industries.

Her research publications address the development, creative practices and experience of electronic dance music cultures, including the co-edited collection DJ Culture in the Mix In addition to her work for IASPM@Journal she is member of the Advisory Board of Dancecult, Journal for Electronic Dance Music Culture. She has been professionally engaged in music culture since 1982, when she became involved with influential Manchester club the Haçienda, FAC51, and released her first electronic recording as part of Quando Quango, for (now defunct) UK indie label Factory Records. A selection of recordings are currently re-released on several compilations.
